The club committee met at the home of Simone and Denis Lahaye at Saint Raphael on 17 & 18 November and were warmly welcomed despite the chill in the weather! Thank you Simone and Denis!
The work carried out was evidence of the solid basis of the team. The different services offered by the club are well-organised and efficient.
All the members of the committee are carrying out effectively the tasks allocated to them at the AGM. Thank you to them all.
Lively discussions have led to the formulation of plans for the future. Mainly they relate to the organisation of the different activities within the committee.
It was decided to create :
– Visiting cards which club members can hand out to like-minded travellers they meet en route.
– Membership cards
– Badges that can be worn at the AGM and on balades
A sub-committee working on a marketing flyer for the club will present a draft at the end of January.
Postcards of Paris that can be distributed as a souvenir to those we meet on our travels will be available supplied in batches of 50, at a cost of 0.10 euros each, plus carriage. Available from me or at the next AGM.
The constitution of the club and other legal documents are being reviewed. Please send me your comments and amendments.
Other reviews are taking place and we’ll keep you informed about progress.
The current committee aims to ensure the continuity of provision of services to club members, especially while on the road.
The committee would welcome any offers of help. There’s lots to do and a little of your time would be gratefully accepted. Contact me if you can help.
A pool of French-English translators has been established and additional volunteeers are always welcome. Michele Sommer is responsible for translation from English to French and would welcome additional translators.
This will enable us on the one hand to add English articles to the site, and on the other allow us to profit from the wide experience of our English-speaking members by including information from them on the website and in the bulletin.

Gaby Rambault’s interview with Carlos Ibanez, our Spanish member, who is organising the next AGM and the autumn balade.
GR: Hello Carlos! You and your wife followed the Silk Route a while ago…
CI: About 18 months ago, just before the AGMGR: Yesterday afternoon you kindly invited us to hold the next AGM in Spain, together with a balade (tour).
CI: Yes, I thought in Navarre in the north of Spain near the Pyrernees, about 60 km from the border. For the balade (tour) there are lots of things to see, nature, monuments, gastoronomy, we can do practically everything close to the venue for the AGM
GR: Is parking a problem? Is there room for 30, 60, 80 motorhomes.
CI: I’ve got somewhere in mind and will talk to the manager of the site. It will easily take 80 to 100 motorhomes. It’s by a little lake in a beautiful mountainous area.
GR: lots of people want to attend the 2008 AGM in Spain, so it could be a large group. Could we provide two tours for 30-40 motorhomes, one before the AGM and one after?
CI: It’s not a problem, we could have two groups.
GR: So it’s agreed that the AGM and the tour will be held in Pamplona. Now tell me about your vehicle, a 4X4 on a MAN chassis. You must know some good places to take it in Spain.
CI: Yes so I thought we could even offer two tours at the AGM: one for 4x4s (quite close to the AGM venue) and a more civilised one on ordinary roads. It could even be a combination of the two.
GR: Tell us about some of the trips you’ve done
CI: To start with we had an Iveco Daily 4x4. We went to Morocco, Mauritania, Mali and Tunisia. Next year we hope to go to Tchad to visit a national park whose director is a Spanish biologist that we know. We may go in January. I’ve been a camper since I was a child. I used to take a tent with my father, then a caravn and I built my first 4x4 on an Iveco chassis. And now I’ve got the Man.
GR: So this 4x4 here was built by you?
CI: Yes
GR: Do you have a family?
CI: I’ve two children and my wife (it’s a second marriage for us both) two more. The youngest is 21 and they’re all working. We’re free!
GR: Do you still work or are you retired?
CI: I’m still working, but I hope to retire at the end of this year.
GR: What is your profession?
CI: I work in industry, I’ve owned a small company specialising in laser cutting for the last 15 years.
GR: Thank you! We’re delighted to have you both in the club and hope to see you soon on the Silk Road and others
